Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom. Of all the liars in the world, our own fears are the worst liars who deceive us and keep us down.

An event hosted by President Donald Trump in his Atlantic City Casino in 1988 explains the negative impact of fear in a more graphic and dramatic way.

Mohammed Ali, boxing’s greatest ever by popular opinion picked Spinks over Tyson. First, never let any human opinion hold you down. Let the word of God be the source of your strength and faith. Michael Spinks fell from glory! Within 91 seconds and lost all the honour he has acquired as a boxer in a life time. He was bowled over by fear and news that Mike Tyson was unbeatable. When you think an hurdle is too high, you may never cross it.. After the fight, Spinks admitted: “Fear was knocking on my door”.

Tyson a whooping $22m for beating Spinks who went home with nothing but the remnants of fear – which are shame and sorrow. That night, Tyson held up the three major heavyweight belts at the time.

Before the fight in the changing rooms, Iron Tyson punched a hole in a wall after Spinks’ manager objected to the way his hands were gloved.

But in the other changing room, Spinks was shivering and shuddering. Spinks said he was not sure he was going to be able to leave that room.”

And in the ring, a taller Spinks with better record and 9 years older than Tyson raised his hand in the ring, looking absolutely petrified, according to the former world heavyweight champion David Haye.

It was three days to Tyson’s 22nd birthday. With faith, confidence and charisma, he trudged amongst a security-heavy entourage of around 100 through the crowds. Spinks had more experience, more support, more testimonies but very little faith. Fear is a killer.

I remind you today, “With men, many things are impossible but with God all things are possible” – Mathew 19:26.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” – Hebrews 11:26. ONLY FAITH PLEASES GOD. FEAR PLEASES SATAN AND HIS DEMONS BECOMES IT EMPOWERS THEM TO DEFEAT YOU.
